We like to refer to the Sunrise Tour as the “Early Bird Tour”, because it is a specific type of person who enjoys an early rise and a good walk in the trails of Tikal.
The first part of this tour involves a climb to Temple IV, which faces east, and gives our guests the opportunity to contemplate the awakening of the forest on top of the largest temple of America Pre-Columbiana.
As weather and air clarity permit, one does not always experience great sunrises, and the main attraction is to be in site when the full transition from the night to the early morning takes place. Our guests are able to observe the stars when they first ascend the temple, and then watch the jungle come to life in front of their eyes. This is what makes this visit a special moment and a beautiful experience.
The Tikal Sunrise Tour is complementary for our guests signing up for the Dinner-Breakfast option

Imagine walking through the jungle just before sunrise, as it comes alive with the sounds of birds, insects, monkeys, in the wild darkness. Looming up above in the dawning sky is the silhouette of an ancient temple of a lost Maya world. As you smell the tropical aromas of the dense green forest, you become lost in over 2,000 years of history.
Located only steps away from the Tikal archaeological grounds is the Tikal Inn, a Guatemalan family-owned hotel. The Inn has quality accommodations, dining, and the best personalized service that Tikal has to offer, while catering to travelers from all over the world on a variety of budgets. Built in 1968, the Tikal Inn has been owned and operated by the Ortiz family for over 40 years. Erwin Ortiz Castillo was an engineer who settled in the remote jungles of the Peten region. He was an entrepreneur from a young age, harvesting Allspice from the Allpice trees, bottling rain water, recollection of Xate palm fronds leaves for export, chicken farming. Because of his engineering skills, the Guatemalan government appointed him in charge of building the landing strip for airplanes flying into Tikal. Afterwards, he remained in Tikal to build the Tikal Inn.
Today, we, the Ortiz family still manage the hotel to ensure it operates smoothly and efficiently. We are dedicated to making our guests feel welcome and at home. Tikal is an enchanting journey, a unique life experience into Maya history and we are proud to share it with you.
